Cholecystectomy (Gallbladder Removal)
Assam's Premier Multi Superspeciality Hospital
About Cholecystectomy (Gallbladder Removal)
Laparoscopic removal of the gallbladder for gallstones and gallbladder disease.
Gallstones are a common cause of pain in the upper right abdomen, especially after fatty meals, and can lead to infection of the gallbladder, jaundice or pancreatitis. Removing the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) is the standard treatment for gallstones that cause symptoms.
At NENC most cholecystectomies are performed laparoscopically through a few small cuts, with most patients going home within a day or two. The body digests food normally without a gallbladder.
