About Aneurysm Clipping & Coiling

Open microsurgical clipping and minimally invasive endovascular coiling for ruptured and unruptured brain aneurysms.

A brain aneurysm is a weak, ballooned area in the wall of a brain artery. If it ruptures it causes bleeding around the brain (subarachnoid haemorrhage), which is a medical emergency. Unruptured aneurysms found on scans can often be treated in a planned way to prevent rupture.

NENC offers both established treatments. Surgical clipping places a tiny titanium clip across the neck of the aneurysm through a small opening in the skull. Endovascular coiling reaches the aneurysm through a blood vessel in the groin or wrist and fills it with soft platinum coils, with no open surgery. The choice depends on the aneurysm's size, shape, location and your overall health, and is made jointly by our neurosurgery and neuro-intervention team.
